I moved to another country

Have you moved to another country with one of your parents? And are you now no longer living in the same country as your other parent? That parent may not want you to live in that other country now. For you, that may be a difficult situation.

Just like with Luuk. In Spain, his parents keep arguing. Luuk goes on holiday with his mother to visit relatives in the Netherlands. At the end of the holiday, his mother tells him they are staying in the Netherlands. Luuk can also go to school in the Netherlands. But now what? Luuks father is very sad and wants Luuk to come back to Spain. Luuk likes it in the Netherlands and with his mother. But he also misses his father and friends in Spain very much.

Have you moved to another country just like Luuk? Usually, both your parents have to agree to that move. Didn't they? It may sound strange, but we call this an 'international child abduction'. For you, this can be a difficult situation. You have to get used to a new country, a new school and you suddenly live far away from one of your parents. And you may have to move back after a while.

If that is the case, a lot can happen. For example, your parents may go to court. A judge then may decide whether you have to move back.
